A rich hydrating toner formulated with seven forms of Hyaluronic Acid.

Despite its name, the Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium Lotion is not a moisturising lotion in the traditional sense. In Japanese skincare, we’ve found the word “lotion” commonly refers to a hydrating toner used after cleansing and before serums or moisturiser.

The formula combines seven forms of Hyaluronic Acid, each with slightly different properties. Together, they help attract water to the skin, maintain hydration across its surface and leave dehydrated skin feeling softer, smoother and more comfortable.

Several supporting humectants, including Glycerin, Diglycerin, Hydroxyethyl Urea and Sorbitol, reinforce this hydrating effect. These ingredients help bind water within the uppermost layers of the skin and reduce the tight feeling that can occur after cleansing.

Its texture is richer and slightly thicker than a typical watery toner. A small amount can be massaged into slightly damp skin following cleansing and before the rest of your routine, which helps seal in the hydration provided by the formula. One layer may be enough for combination or oily skin, while dry or dehydrated skin may benefit from applying a second thin layer.

The formula is free from added fragrance and essential oils, keeping its focus on hydration. Its simple ingredient list also makes it easy to use alongside active ingredients without adding another exfoliating or potentially irritating step.

How to use

1. Apply after cleansing
Use morning, evening or both while your skin is still slightly damp if possible.

2. Pour a bleberry sized amount into your palms
You only need enough to lightly coat your face and neck.

3. Pat gently into the skin
Press the toner into your skin until absorbed rather than rubbing it in.

4. Follow with your serums and moisturiser
Apply your next skincare steps while your skin is still feeling hydrated to help seal in the moisture.

You can also apply a second layer if your skin is feeling particularly dehydrated.
