An effective cleanser using Bija Seed Oil from Jeju Island, designed to target post-acne breakouts and soothe skin.
The key ingredients of this cleanser include Lauric Acid and Stearic Acid, gentle and well-loved chemical exfoliators. However, Lauric and Stearic Acid are both fatty acids and comedogenic (aka they block pores), and this product is targeted for those with acne-prone and oily skin. Ordinarily this product could be fine, but prolonged and daily use of this product could exacerbate acne flare ups. However, Lauric Acid has shown promising research in inhibiting the growth of acne-causing bacteria, and combined with Salicylic Acid, a well-known BHA that acts as an exfoliant to unclog pores by shedding dead skin cells, it could be very beneficial to those with acne-prone and oily skin.
Beyond these capabilities, this formulation also incorporates ingredients to maintain skin health and comfort. Glycerin (a baeve fave) acts as a skin-identical ingredient and humectant, attracting and retaining moisture to keep the skin hydrated. The star ingredient, however, Torreya Nucifera Seed Oil (Bija) is highly valued in Korea as it is oil from a tree on Jeju Island (our favourite holiday destination) that boasts multiple advantages, such as softening, smoothing, moisturising, hydrating, and protecting the skin – making it a great soothing ingredient for those with acne-prone and sensitive skin.
Well suited: regular, above 16 years of age, and under 40 years of age
Well suited, but be wary: acne-prone, oily, combo, sensitive, mature, psoriasis, and those 40 years of age and over (we note that there are natural perfuming ingredients in this product, as well as essential oils - if you find that fragrance is a known irritation for you and your skin, then skip this product)
Not well suited: dry, rosacea, eczema, pregnancy, children 16 years of age and under, and those wanting to avoid fungal acne triggers
